Basic Instructions on using the Email Defence Service

There are very few instructions as it is fairly self evident and simple to use.  If you have not yet signed up for this service, please click on the links at bottom to view some screenshots to get an idea of how it will help you take care of your email box.

Some general points:

1. If you currently have your spam filtered on your email program for Spamassassin subject line-tagged emails, please keep your 'rules' in place as spamassassin will continue to run and you can take advantage of using both sets of services to keep your inbox free of junk.
2. Do review the daily Spam Quarantine Report for a while to make sure the system is not catching any important emails.  It has a very low rate of false-positives, but it may catch emails from mailing lists etc.  If it does, simply click on the 'Always Allow' next to the email you want to receive.  This will automatically add the sender to your 'Allowed Senders List'.  You also have an option of selecting 'Release' if you just want to allow through the one email.
3. If you prefer to change the frequency of the Spam Quarantine Report, it can be set by clicking on the frequency at the bottom of the report.  Below that you also have other options such as disabling email filtering and setting the reporting to a text-only summary.
4. Although it is very convenient to use the 'Spam Quarantine Report' to manage your account, you can also choose to login to their web utility instead (Email Defense Portal).  Simply click on the link at bottom of the report to set your Console password.
5. You should know that should the email defense service be down for any reason, all mail will automatically be routed through our mailservers so there is no chance of losing any emails.

7. If you receive emails that you feel should have been filtered as spam, please make sure they were not added to the 'allow' list. If you have determined that the system was not configured to allow them to bypass the filtering, please forward the email along with the email header information to spam@emaildefenseservice.com  The email headers are generally hidden from normal email viewing.  Check your email program help files to find out how you can find the email headers.
