almost exclusively to create and manage webpages. It is an affordable program that
allows you to:

- Create graphics
(with Image Composer- bundled with Frontpage)

- Make it easy to completely redesign your site quickly using themes
- Use powerful technologies such as Dynamic HTML, Cascading Style
Sheets, ActiveX controls, Java applets and more!
- Publish your site to a www server
All domains hosted by The Net Now include Frontpage Server
Extensions if required. Please note that the FrontPage search component will
not work on our servers. We can provide an alternate solution for those
clients who require a search page on their site. Please contact us for
details.
To Access your Frontpage Web on the
server.
1. Open Frontpage "Explorer".
2. Click on FILE --> OPEN FRONTPAGE WEB
3. Click on OPEN AN EXISTING FRONTPAGE WEB
4. Click on the button: MORE WEBS
5. In the new window that pops up, where it says: "Select a Web
server or disk location" Enter: YOURDOMAIN.COM (or if you don't have a domain, enter
THENETNOW.COM)
6. Click the LIST WEBS button.
7. In a few moments, you will see the name of your web appear in the
larger box (i.e. yourwebsitename). It should be highlighted, if not, highlight by clicking
on it. Then click on OK.
8. You will be prompted for your username and password. Your
username and password were supplied to you when you opened your webhosting account with
The Net Now.
9. You should then connect to the server.
To Upload Files to your Frontpage Web
on the server.
There are two ways you can put new content from your
computer to the server. Both are covered here for you. We most often use the second method
(Importing) to just add new files to an existing web on the server. Note: In the
first method (Publishing) we assume you have a web on your hard drive. If you do
not, and just need to upload files from your computer, use the second method (Importing).
Notes:
1. If you are publishing your site and experience difficulties, please
use the import method instead. FP on occasion will time out when publishing
larger sites.
2. There are several places you will see a checkbox that mentions
SSL required. You should NOT check these.
PUBLISHING YOUR WEB:
The 'correct' way to publish your new web to the server is as
follows. You will be prompted along the way to make several decisions about the files.
1. Open Frontpage "explorer"
2. The GETTING STARTED Box may popup right away. Choose the web that
is on your hard drive from the list. (When you click on the name, the full path will be
listed immediately below the window in the gray portion of the box so that you will know
you have the correct web. It should be something like: c:\path-on-your-hard-drive ) Once
it's selected, choose OK.
3. Once your web on the hard drive is open, go to FILE--> PUBLISH
FRONTPAGE WEB.
4. Unless you are already showing your domain listed as a web on the
server (http://yourdomain.com) on the list, you will have to go to MOREWEBS, and enter
http://yourdomain.com in the window that pops up.
5. In the PUBLISH box, It will say: "Publish frontpage web
to:" , In the white window, you will have the web highlighted and you can
confirm you have the one on the server by looking immediately below the window. It should
say: http://yourdomain.com
6. Make SURE you have the "Publish Changed Pages Only" box
CHECKED. The Include child webs doesn't need to be checked unless you have created child
webs and wish to publish them also.
7. Hit OK and follow the prompts as they appear.
8. If there are any files that currently exist on the server, you
will be prompted whether to overwrite the ones on the server now.
9. The web on the server should now contain all the files you have
created on your hard drive.
IMPORTING YOUR FILES:
We most often simply "import" any new pages or graphics to
the webserver when there are only one or two files being added to the web.
1. Open Frontpage "explorer"
2. The GETTING STARTED Box may popup right away. Choose the web on
the server from the list. (When you click on the name, the full path will be listed
immediately below the window in the gray portion of the box so that you will know you have
the correct web. It should say: http://yourdomain.com )
3. If this 'getting started" window didn't pop up, just go to
FILE --> OPEN FRONTPAGE WEB to bring up the GETTING STARTED box and follow step #2 (If
you don't see the web listed on the server, use the MOREWEBS button to search for the web
under "yourdomain.com" to search for it.
4. Open the web on the server by selecting it in the list on
the GETTING STARTED box and then choosing OK.
5. You will be prompted for the username and password here.
6. To import the new files to the web server, open the location
where you want the files imported to. That is, if they are going in the main root of the
web, the folder icon left of the http://yourdomain.com should be open when you are in
FOLDERS view and you are looking in the left side of the split screen. If you were
importing to the images folder, you would double click on the IMAGES folder to open
it.(the contents of the file open will show on right side)
7. To import the files to the folder that's open, use
FILE-->IMPORT, the IMPORT FILES TO FRONTPAGE WEB opens. Just click on the ADD
FILE button to view the files on your hard drive. Select the ones you want to import and
choose OPEN. They will be listed and highlighted. If you want to import all you have
listed, choose OK. They will then be transferred to the Server.
8. If there are any files that currently exist on the server, you
will be prompted whether to overwrite the ones on the server now.
9. You should have your files on the server now : )
Creating a website with Frontpage98
There are far too many features to explain how to use
everything. We recommend following the Frontpage tutorial, or just creating a test
page, to try out all the features. We will add more basic information to this page
as time permits.
